License Agreement

End User License Agreement (EULA)

Summary: You're purchasing a license to use FamilyCodex on your own server. Your data belongs to you. You get lifetime updates. You can't redistribute the software.

1. Definitions

  • "Software" means FamilyCodex, including all files, documentation, and updates.
  • "License" means the right to use the Software as described herein.
  • "License Key" means the unique code provided to activate paid features.
  • "Licensee" or "You" means the individual or entity purchasing the License.
  • "Activation" means registering a License Key with a specific domain.

2. License Types

Free License

  • Limited to 500 individuals, 50 photos, 1 user
  • Personal, non-commercial use only
  • No license key required
  • Community support only

Family Pack License

  • Up to 5,000 individuals, 1,000 photos, 100 users
  • Personal or commercial use
  • 2 domain activations included
  • Lifetime updates (within major version)
  • Email support (48-72 hour response)

Family Pack Pro License

  • Unlimited individuals, photos, and users
  • Personal or commercial use
  • 2 domain activations included
  • Lifetime updates (within major version)
  • Priority email support (24 hour response)

3. Grant of License

Subject to these terms, we grant you a:

  • Perpetual - The license does not expire
  • Non-exclusive - We may license to others
  • Non-transferable - You cannot sell or give away your license
  • Worldwide - Valid in all jurisdictions

right to install, use, and run the Software according to your license type.

4. Activation and Domain Registration

Paid licenses must be activated with a domain name. Each license allows:

  • Up to 2 concurrent domain activations
  • Typical usage: production site + staging/development site
  • Activations can be transferred to new domains via the customer portal
  • localhost is not counted toward activation limits

5. Restrictions

You agree NOT to:

  • Copy, redistribute, or share the Software or License Key
  • Sell, sublicense, lease, or rent the Software
  • Modify, adapt, or create derivative works (except for your own use)
  • Remove copyright notices, license validation, or branding
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Use the Software to build a competing product
  • Publish your License Key or make it publicly accessible
  • Use one license for multiple unrelated projects or clients

6. Ownership and Intellectual Property

Software: We retain all rights, title, and interest in the Software. This license does not transfer ownership.

Your Data: You retain full ownership of all data you create using the Software. We claim no rights to your family tree data, photos, or other content.

7. Updates and Upgrades

Updates (e.g., 1.0 to 1.1): Included free for life with your license.

Major Upgrades (e.g., 1.x to 2.0): May require a separate purchase or paid upgrade. Existing customers typically receive discounted pricing.

8. Support

Support is provided according to your license tier (see Section 2). Support includes assistance with installation, configuration, and bug reports. Support does not include custom development, server administration, or third-party integrations.

9. Warranty Disclaimer

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS.

10. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE. OUR MAXIMUM LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LICENSE FEE PAID.

11. Termination

This license is effective until terminated. It will terminate automatically if you:

  • Breach any term of this agreement
  • Share or distribute your License Key
  • Use the Software for illegal purposes

Upon termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software. Termination does not entitle you to a refund.

12. Refund Policy

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied, contact us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. After 30 days, refunds are provided at our discretion.

13. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using FamilyCodex, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this License Agreement.
